Sylvie Klijn is a singer and composer based in Lausanne, Switzerland. She holds master degrees from the Fontys Conservatory (NL) with a focus on composition, piano and singing and a master degree in Arts and Society at the University of Utrecht (NL). From 2019-2021 she followed the master program jazz voice & composition in Switzerland at the Haute École de Musique Lausanne. Here she was taught by Sara Lazarus, Susanne Abbuehl, Emil Spányi, Delphine Gillot and Jeff Baud.
She started her musical career as a classical pianist and has won prizes at the Selection National Competition and the Princess Christina Competition, after which she was invited by the Dutch embassy in Tunisia to give concerts. From the classical bachelor Sylvie has made the switch to jazz and pop music. In her compositions these styles are combined, resulting in wordless pieces in which distant worlds resound, or narrative music with minimal influences. With her Dutch band, the Klijn Kwartet, she played at, among others, the Grachtenfestival, radio 4, jazz stage Paradox, TivoliVredenburg and concert hall Willem II. In June 2019 the group released their first album entitled Safe Ground.
As a singer and composer, she is part of several projects based in Switzerland. She has her own group there, the Klijn Kwintet, with which she participated in the prestigious Crest Jazz competition in August 2021. She also founded the trio Vagalumes with percussionist Samuel Boutros and guitarist Paul Alberto Gonzalez Ostos, which mainly focuses on Brazilian music. For this she uses poems by Fernanado Pessoa and Florbela Espanza as song lyrics. The trio won the prize Coup the Coeur during the JazzContreBand competition in October 2021. Sylvie is also part of Sugar Swing, a swing jazz group with the unusual line-up of voice, vibraphone, flute, bass and guitar. With this group she released an EP at the end of 2021. And she forms a duo with accordion player Lea Gasser, under the name OXEON. The duo shares a classical background and arranges and improvises on classical works and performs their own work. OXEON has been selected for the semi-finals of the Lavaux classique competition.
Sylvie was allowed to participate in the Keep an Eye Summer Jazz Workshop at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and took a course at the Complete Vocal Institute in Copenhagen. In Switzerland she has given concerts at the JazzOnze + festival, Antigel festival, NovaJazz festival and performed her own work on Swiss radio.

Sylvie Klijn est chanteuse et compositrice. Elle a obtenu un master au Conservatoire de Fontys (NL) avec une spécialisation en composition, piano et chant et un master Arts and Society à l’Université d’Utrecht (NL). De 2019-2021 elle a suivi son master en chant et composition jazz en Suisse à la Haute École de Musique Lausanne. Elle a commencé sa carrière musicale en tant que pianiste classique et a remporté des prix au Concours National de Sélection ainsi qu’au Concours Princesse Christina, après quoi elle a été invitée par l’ambassade des Pays-Bas en Tunisie à donner des concerts. Après son bachelor classique, Sylvie est passée à la musique jazz et pop. Dans ses compositions, ces styles sont combinés, aboutissant à des pièces sans paroles dans lesquelles résonnent des mondes lointains ou une musique narrative aux influences minimales. Avec son groupe néerlandais, le Klijn Kwartet, elle a joué, entre autres, au Grachtenfestival, à la radio 4, à la scène de jazz Paradox, à TivoliVredenburg et à la salle de concert Willem II. En juin 2019, le groupe a sorti son premier album intitulé Safe Ground.

En ze vormt een duo met accordeoniste Lea Gasser, onder de naam OXEON. Het duo deelt een klassieke achtergrond en arrangeert en improviseert op klassieke werken en voert eigen werk uit. OXEON is geselecteerd voor de halve finale van het Lavaux classique concours.
